So, finally the time for me to tell more about the job that I'm doing here. My job can be divided to to sections: What I do in the office and what I do on the boat. Before that, here's the answer for last posts game. That demonstrates how difficult it sometimes is to notice where the whale(s) is.
The office part is more straightforward, minus the Icelandic. The office work is revolved around customer service, managing bookings and selling tickets/souvenirs. They are things that I am already familiar with as a consept. Although when the apps' texts are in Icelandic I need to remember what means what. Hopefully at the end of this two months I'll be able to understand all the words and know how to pronounce them. The most hectic times are before a boat sails. People usually start arriving an hour before the boat sails and keep on coming until it leaves. The customers have purchased their tickets beforehand or come to buy them straight from us. On either of the cases we give them a physical ticket which is shown to a crew member before boarding (and the small part ripped to indicate it has been used).
The boat part is also rather simple, but it has more variables. When the boarding starts I greet the customers with other crew and make sure they are good to go. If there are children on board we have to make sure that every passenger 12 and under are wearing life vests as per Icelandic law. When the ship is at sea the focus is seeing that all the passengers are safely inside the boat and helping them with any questions they have. If there are beverages for sale (depends on the size of the boat) I'll sell those. I also try to see if there are any whales in sight that everyone else has missed. Warm suits are also provided for customers so if someone wants one I'll help with those. After the tour it's time to clean the boat and get back to the office.
So these are the things I do in a nutshell. Next time I'll be telling about a typical day at work. Until then!
